Mudanzas

The first idea of the project Mudanzas was to show a sequence of pictures to illustrate the uncontrolled artisanal ads in the streets of Mexico City. Specifically, I wanted to focus on posters made of paper or stickers, stuck on almost every light poles in the streets, kind of modern mosaic in the city landscape.

The one

The initial objective was to illustrate the diversity of the posters that are decorating the streets. But I rapidly faced an omnipresent one : Mudanzas. The word means house move in Spanish and was displayed to propose furniture transportation.

Mudanzas project

It had a strong signification for me at this time, as a foreigner living in Mexico. It made an echo to my situation of temporary living in this country : I moved in few years before and I was about to move out few years later.

So I walked in the neighborhood, looking for all around for the Mudanzas posters to compose the mosaic. An original Mudanzas poster, moved from its initial place to the center of the composition, creates a connection between its real purpose and its representation on the mosaic of pictures.

Mudanza Project

To illustrate the composition, a citation of the philosopher Hippolyte Taine goes with this realization :

We travel to change, not a place, but ideas.
Hippolyte Taine

If we look to each photo closer, we can notice the diversity of the condition of the same poster. The sequence outlines the effect of the time, natural degradation or people actions.

Exhibition and details

The Mudanzas project is a 100% street photography realization. It is a selection of 99 images among 295, shoot on April 30th and May 3rd 2017, in the Condesa Neighborhood.

It was realized during my first photography course in Mexico City at the Academia de Artes Visuales (AAVI). It received the Honorific mention at the academy exhibition in 2017.

Buenos Aires, Paris… Mexico

The Mudanzas project was inspired by the books “Buenos Aires fuera de serie” and “Made in Paris” published by La Marca Editora.
